Miss Teenage Canada!

Sunday, July 20th | Thursday, July 24th | Saturday, July 26th:

What a week it has been!! It sure has been a hectic one, but it will also be one I will never forget. Sometime during mid last week, I got a message from a colleague, asking me to take part with the Motives team to do makeup for the girls of the Miss Teenage Canada 2014 Pageant! Without hesitation, I agreed and was super stoked for this opportunity, as I have never been a part of anything like this before – ever. Although I was very excited, I was also very scared and extremely nervous, only because I didn’t feel as if my experience level was anywhere near compared to the makeup artists that were going to be there doing the girls’ makeup as well. I’ve done simple makeup looks here and there for friends and family before, but I haven’t had much experience doing it professionally on others before. Finding out that the pageant was also going to be televised did not really help ease my nervousness at all either. With that being said, knowing that I wasn’t as experienced as the rest of the team made me doubt myself a little… but I asked myself, how will you ever know what you’re capable of if you never take the jump to just at least try?

This experience was such a great one and made me realize my true potential and drive to succeed in being the best I can be at what I love to do. During this experience, I have had the opportunity not only to learn and grow, but I have also had the pleasure of meeting some pretty amazing people who made this experience even more memorable than it already is. From meeting fellow makeup artists and colleagues to making new friends with some of the pageant girls to meeting Luke Bilyk from TV Show Degrassi, I’d say this experience was a lot more eventful than what I had expected it to be.

After an experience such as this, there is quite a lot that I have learned and taken from this. Most importantly, I learned to just believe in yourself during times of doubt. Whenever you feel like you can’t do something or you’re too scared to take such an opportunity when it arises, just remind yourself of the love and passion you have for what you do – that love and passion is what’s going to fuel your drive to be the best that you can be.

“Success in life comes when you simply refuse to give up, with goals so strong that obstacles, failures and loss only act as motivation to keep going.”

Below are some of my fav pictures that help sum up this memorable experience! 😀

P.S. I apologize for the Iphone picture quality! I didn’t have a chance to take these with my DSLR! 🙁 So sad that the lighting and colors of my makeup looks didn’t pick up as well with my Iphone, but I suppose these will have to do!

pretty in pink.

I wanted to do a quick post on a new favourite Pink lipstick that I will definitely be using a lot this summer! After purchasing my first ever red lipstick and adding that into my collection, I thought about what other colors I wanted to give a try. Most of my pink lipsticks are more neutral and light and I felt I was in need of a lipstick that gave more of a pop of pink rather than the nude-like pink that I am used to. I came across MAC Cosmetics’ Matte Lipstick in “Kinda Sexy” and let’s just say I fell in love with it instantly! I find that this lipstick is perfect for anyone like me who still loves their neutrals, but wouldn’t mind a hint of color here and there for a more fun and summery look. This lipstick has a rosey pink hint to it, which I find stands out real nicely when used with a slightly darker nude lipliner.

sunkissed & bronzed.

This post is a little late, but I finally have a chance to post this look up after the busy week I’ve been having so far! For this look, I was aiming for a very bronzed and dewy look, as it was a very humid and muggy out that day. Instead of using my usual Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation, I decided to go with more of a lightweight kind of coverage for the dewy and natural look. As for my eyeshadows, I stuck with more of the bronzed and dark browns for this look using my Motives Pro Palette and my Smashbox Full Exposure palette.

Keep reading below on how I achieved this makeup look! 🙂

  1. Foundation: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (Oil Free)  in “Nude”
  2. Eye base Primer: Sigma Beauty Eye Base Primer in “Persuade”
  3. Begin filling in the outer crease with the color “Cappuccino” from the Motives Pro Palette
  4. Take the color “Hazelnut” from the Motives Pro Palette and apply to the inner crease, blending away in a sideways V shape for the smokey eyed look
  5. Take a smaller blending brush, and use the color “M1” from the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette and go over the inner crease area and blend into the previous color for a bigger smokey eye effect
*This will also help make your eyes seem bigger, adding more dimension and depth*
  6. Take the color “Bedroom Eyes” from the Motives Pro Palette and apply on the rest of the lid for the base
  7. As for the highlight color, take the color “S4” from the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette and apply all underneath the brow
  8. Eyeliner: Motives Cosmetics Gel Eyeliner in “Little Black Dress”
  9. Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Waterproof Mascara
  10. Bronzer: Motives Cosmetics Bronzer in “Miami Glow”
*I used a lot of bronzer on the cheek bones and also lightly applied it all over for a more bronzed look*
  11. Blush: Motives Cosmetics Blush in “Lust”
  12. Lips: Lipliner – MAC Cosmetics in “Subculture” | Lipstick – MAC Cosmetics in “Half n’ Half”
  13. Setting Spray: Motives Cosmetics “10 Years Younger Setting Spray”
